Logan International Airport
Boston’s Logan International Airport is one of the busiest airports in America. Just a few miles northeast of downtown Boston, Logan Airport is conveniently reached from the city by Subway, bus, taxi, or car.
Transportation Overview
Situated on the east side of downtown Boston near Boston Harbor, Logan Airport is just three miles from downtown Boston. Indeed there are a several of methods of transportation for those visiting Boston to get to and from Logan International Airport. Logan International Airport’s transportation includes the Boston Subway, taxis in Boston, public buses, rental cars, ferry rides and shared vans.
Getting to and From
With many ways to travel to and from the airport, you are free to choose whatever suits your needs, time constraints, and budget. For those staying on the outskirts of the city, there is a Logan Express Bus Service that offers rides to and from Braintree, Framingham, Peabody, and Woburn.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), which handles all public transportation in Boston, also runs the subway. The subway, or T-Line, has the Blue and Silver Lines which run to and from the airport area for just two dollars one-way. The Silver Line goes to and from South Station and takes you directly to the departure terminals. The South Station is located right in Boston financial district and near Chinatown and South Boston. You can buy tickets for the Silver Line at every airport terminal. The Blue Line does not take you directly to the airport but you can connect via free airport shuttle buses to get to you terminal. Use the 22, 33 and 55 numbered shuttle buses that are provided by MASSport.
The water shuttle also takes customers from downtown Boston, Quincy Market and Hull right to the airport shuttle bus stop. This offers an exciting to view the city of Boston from the harbor.
Generally speaking, taxi or limousine services are usually much faster than the subway and are convenient if you are carrying lots of luggage. However, it will be by far the most expensive transportation method. A taxi will cost $25 to $65 for trips just outside the central Boston area. For those arriving, there are taxi stands located at every terminal; they are situated outside the terminal doors to the left of the baggage claim areas.
Logan Airport also has seven rental car companies operating in the airport. Be sure to book a rental car beforehand to get the best rates. You can also park your rental car at the airport when you leave and arrive. There are toll fees of $3.50 when leaving the airport westbound.
Flight Information
For visitors, when planning your transportation to Boston Logan Airport, be sure to arrive roughly 75 minutes before your flight to give yourself time to check-in and go through security. Logan can be very crowded at times. Over the years, Logan has been considered to be one of the more efficient airports in terms of percentage of delays and late arrivals. The winter, due to bad weather in Boston, may see more delays due to snow and bad weather, so plan accordingly.
