The Purple Shamrock
At the Purple Shamrock, Irish and American culture have a strong influence. The Purple Shamrock is open for lunch and dinner every day of the week, and for brunch on the weekends, so stop by for some pub food with the whole family.
Where is the Purple Shamrock?
It's all about location when going to the Purple Shamrock. Wherever you go in downtown Boston you are likely to hit the historic Freedom Trail. While following the red brick pathway to some of America's most historic sights, you will pass The Purple Shamrock. The restaurant is only a few blocks away from Faneuil Hall, also on the Freedom Trail. If you and your family need a break from a day of sightseeing, stop into the Purple Shamrock for lunch or dinner. TD Garden, home to the Boston Bruins hockey team and the Boston Celtics basketball team, is also located less than one mile from the restaurant.
Atmosphere
If you are eating with kids you should try the Purple Shamrock for either lunch or a relatively early dinner. This restaurant can get busy with a college-aged crowd late at night. Set in an old red brick building with a warm wooden décor, the Purple Shamrock has an inviting Irish pub feel.
Irish Fare
The Irish side of the Purple Shamrock is reflected in its menu selection. They serve traditional fish and chips, a great combination of traditional Irish food and New England seafood. Another popular entree is Shepard's pie made with ground beef. During weekend brunch, the Purple Shamrock serves a traditional Irish breakfast, consisting of some familiar breakfast foods such as eggs, bacon, and sausage but it's the black and white pudding and baked beans that make the dish uniquely Irish. The traditional Irish breakfast is not for the faint of heart, however, as black and white pudding are made from blood and fat turned into a type of sausage.
American Fare
The Purple Shamrock wouldn't be a proper Boston restaurant without serving up some fresh New England seafood. You might want to start your meal with their award winning New England clam chowder, a Boston classic. For entrees, there are several seafood options, such as the Seafood Fra Diablo, a spicy seafood sauce served over linguine, or the New England Shore Dinner. This plate full of seafood is priced at market value, guaranteeing that you are getting the freshest seafood around. For some comfort in the morning, try the all American breakfast sandwich or traditional American breakfast.
Drinks
The Purple Shamrock turns into a popular watering hole for the mid-twenties crowd after dark. If you go for a drink be sure to check in with the bartender to see if there are any specials that night. They offer many beers on tap as well as a full bar, and there is no entry cover, even on the weekends.
Entertainment
Check The Purple Shamrock's website for information on any upcoming events. On the weekends you will find a DJ turning this family restaurant into a popular downtown dance spot. They sometimes have karaoke during the week, too, so you might want to check the entertainment schedule ahead of time if you plan on staying late.
Sister Restaurants
The Glynn Hospitality group owns 7 other Irish themed restaurants in Boston on top of the Purple Shamrock. No matter what neighborhood you find yourself in, you may run into a Glynn Hospitality restaurant. They manage to keep the Irish theme going in Jose McIntyre's, an Irish and Mexican restaurant, as well as the Cajun and Irish themed Hurricane O'Reilly's.
You can get a pizza[pizza] and relax in the casual atmosphere of Clery’s in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood[Back Bay]. For a laid back pub, try Coogan's. All of the Glynn Hospitality restaurant offer different menus, but the prices always remain affordable and the atmosphere casual.
