Nick's Comedy Shop

While Boston’s comedy scene has always been substantial, it is only since the 1980’s that it has grown to be known as one of the foremost comedy scenes in the country.  After a slew of fresh stand-up comedians invaded the scene, places like Nick’s Comedy Stop became some of the hottest spots in the city.

Ever heard of Jay Leno or Jerry Seinfeld? Do the names Dane Cook and Steve Allen ring any bells? These are just a few of the notable comedic greats that have graced the doors of Nick’s Comedy Stop over the past 30 years. Nick’s comedy stop prides itself on its reputation as one of the original comedy venues in Boston, a reputation that is much deserved, even today.

From top talent and famous names, to eager newcomers, no matter who’s on stage, Nick’s Comedy Stop does its best to keep the audience always laughing. While many world-famous comedians like Lenny Clarke, Denis Leary, and Don Gavin continue to drop in at this hot local, Nick’s is known as the place to go start for those up and coming funny people.

Nick’s Comedy Stop

Comfortable and cozy, Nick’s Comedy Stop has a capacity of 100 plus people, and can sometimes be rented out for private events of 500 or more. The club has a fully-stocked bar, and a variety of seating arrangements, from bar stools to couches. Located in Chinatown, it’s a great place to hit for a night on the town.

The Shows at Nick’s Comedy Stop

For the most part, shows take place Thursday through Saturday, and begin at 8:30 p.m. Nick’s Comedy Stop has two rooms for shows, one upstairs and one downstairs, so don’t be surprised if you see double listings when you go to book your show.

Unlike many other comedy clubs in the area, Nick’s welcomes an audience of 18 and over, making the club more accessible to Boston’s enormous college crowd. Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone, or at the box office up to an hour before the laughs begin. Tickets can get pricey, especially for the more well-known acts, they are well worth the cost. Students and military veterans should ask for discounts.

Getting There

If you’re driving, be sure to park at the 200 Stuart Street Garage next door for validated parking on Thursday through Saturday nights. If you don’t have a car in town, you can hop on the T and take the Orange Line to NE Medical Center/Chinatown, or the Green Line to Boylston.
