South End

One of the most in-demand residential neighborhoods in Boston with peaceful tree-lined streets and good architecture spying, the South End, which offers visitors endless dining and shopping options, is a great place from which to start your city adventures.

Shopping

Boutique clothing stores can be found clustered on Tretmont Street. Other shops offering women’s and men’s fashions and accessories can be found on cross streets such as Union Park Street and West Springfield Street. Clustered along Tretmont Street, you’ll find pizza restaurants, French bistros, American faire, Indian food, and specialty coffee shops along with tried and true brands like Starbucks. Washington Street, Columbus Avenue, and the many side streets in the South End, house restaurants serving up seafood, Asian cuisine, Spanish tapas, Venezuelan food and much more.

What to see

Visit one of the dozen or so museums and art galleries in the South End. There are several galleries clustered together on or around Harrison Avenue including the Bromfield Art Gallery, the Vessels Gallery and the Boston Sculptors Gallery which features local artists and special exhibitions that change monthly. The Bead and Fiber Gallery on Harrison showcases work and offers classes in designing with beads and fiber such as knitting and bead crochet.  Classes are offered every week. Tretmont Street also offers art galleries such as the Berenberg Gallery, which features works by artists who are self-taught.
