Tips for the Visiting Boston Sports Fan

Now is one of the best times to catch your favorite teams. Follow these tips for the visiting Boston sports fan and watch your teams rack up the points live.

Tips for the Visiting Boston Sports Fan

Fall and winter are the best seasons for a visiting Boston sports fan, especially if you're a fan of multiple sports. You'll have the best chance of catching your favorite teams in action during these two seasons. You can watch touchdowns at Foxborough, homers soar over the famous Green Monster at Fenway Park, earth-shattering dunks at TD Garden, or the puck drop for a Boston Bruins game. Boston has it all for the visiting sports fan.

A good thing to know is when your favorite teams play. If you are a baseball and basketball fan, you should visit Boston in the spring or early summer. This way you can catch both the Sox and the Celtics in one trip. If you like hockey and football you'll need to come after mid-October.

All visiting Boston sports fans will need to look at the schedules of their desired teams. If you're lucky and plan right, you may be able to watch multiple games in a day. For example, the Red Sox will finish most three-game series with a day game, so it might be possible to catch a game at Fenway and a Celtics game later the same night.

Unless you plan on buying your tickets from a scalper (which we don't recommend), you'll need to buy your tickets pretty far in advance. Boston sports tickets are some of the hardest in the country to get; the hardest to snag are Sox and Celtics tickets. Plan ahead or find someone with season tickets. Your best bet for getting a seat is against a team that isn't a rival or isn't doing so well this season. If you want to catch the Yankees or the Lakers in Boston, you'll need to plan months in advance.

If you miss out on the big game, you can still get a great fan experience at one of Boston's sports bar. This is probably a good idea for a visiting Boston sports fan even if you do get a ticket. Mix with the locals and practice your best Boston accent as you throw back a couple Sam Adams. The Bleacher Bar is in the Green Monster and gives you a spectacular view of the field. Boston Beer Works has some of the best microbrews in New England, and watching the game there gives you a true taste of Boston.

If you love sports you need to visit Boston. If you love Boston sports then I don't understand what you're waiting for! If you're planning a trip for the spring, also be sure to check out the places for golf in Boston. There's a little too much snow covering everything right now, but in a few months those green will be ready to go!
