Surviving St. Patricks Day in Boston
Go green! There’s no better place to celebrate the day of Irish heritage than to spend St. Patricks Day in Boston. You might even run into a leprechaun. They come out to party this time of year along with all the other Irish.
I’ve lived in Boston practically my whole adult life, if you count college. Each year St. Patrick’s Day in Beantown outdoes the year before. Let me tell you, there is so much fun going on in one place, it’s important to prepare for the festivities. St. Patrick’s Day in Boston is enjoyed every year by people of all ages. No matter who you are or how old you are, there are a couple things you’re going to have to need in order to survive a typical St. Patrick’s Day in Boston.
First of all, you need a great and reliable place to stay. One of my favorite conveniently located hotels is the Clarendon Square Inn. It puts you in a great position to bump into all of the action going on around St. Patrick’s Day in Boston. What else do you need to survive?
- Something comfortable to walk in because driving on St. Patrick’s Day in Boston is nearly impossible
- A plan for exactly what you think you want to do (which will probably be changed because you’ll be tempted by other St. Patty’s Day offers)
- A water bottle. Stay hydrated and maybe, just maybe, you’ll make it through the rush of St. Patrick’s Day in Boston.
One event is a Boston legend and any trip with be remiss without it. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in South Boston is on Sunday, March 20th starting at 1:00 PM. You can catch a great view of it anywhere along its route on Broadway. Families can do this as a great afternoon activity. And if you’re a college kid like I was once, you’ll probably show up to this after you eat breakfast.
What is there to do on the nights leading up to this historic march? If you’re young and in the mood to get down with the Irish tradition, you’re in the right place. With over one hundred Irish pubs to choose from, St. Patrick’s Day in Boston won’t be a bore. A favorite local place guaranteed to give you your fill of Irish celebration is the Harpoon Brewery. This place has it all. Vendors with fresh corned beef and cabbage, local Irish and rock and roll bands, and featured Celtic ale to wash it all down.
Visiting Boston with kids and looking for something a little more family friendly? No problem, St. Patrick’s Day in Boston isn’t just about beer and whiskey tasting. There are plenty of activities for the whole family. Once my wife and I started having children, we wanted to make it a priority to show them what St. Patrick’s Day in Boston is all about. Since our kids were little, our March 17th consisted of a morning stroll on Boston’s Irish Heritage Trail, a Traditional St. Patty’s day lunch, and an afternoon at the Boston Children’s Museum. Though slightly less thrilling than the good old days of St. Patricks Day in Boston, my priorities have shifted and activities like these help to accommodate.
St. Patrick’s Day in Boston is a day to remember. It is the closest anyone can get to true Irish heritage without making a trek to Ireland itself. Be brave, prepare your survival kit, and come ready to celebrate St. Patricks Day in Boston. You won’t be disappointed. One more thing, just don’t forget to wear green!
